How to Recycle Plastic Bottle Waste Properly?

Articles & Blogs Category

Plastic waste usually accumulates in landfills or is disposed of in the open. Meanwhile, some people choose to burn plastic to get rid of it. However, burning plastic waste can produce toxic substances, such as lead and mercury. The residue from burning will pollute the air, water and soil causing health risks to humans.

That is why recycling plastic waste is the right choice in reducing environmental pollution. So, how?

Collection

The first step in recycling plastic waste is collecting plastic to be recycled.

Although it looks easy, this task requires precision. In the collection process, recyclers must separate recyclable waste from ordinary waste.

Recyclers may also place designated bins around public locations, residential areas, or industrial zones to make collection easier.

Sorting

After the waste is collected, the recycler must do the sorting. Plastic waste is generally sorted based on size, color, thickness, resin content and use.

Sorting is very important because it lets you know which materials to recycle.

Purgatory

After sorting, the recycler must wash them to remove any dirt. It also helps remove the glue and chemicals contained in the plastic.

The cleaning step is very important because dirt can damage the recycled product.

Size Change

The next step in recycling plastic waste is resizing. Recyclers can crush or break plastic into smaller pieces.

Plastic material that is cut into small pieces can be processed more easily than the original form. Resizing also makes it easier to identify the presence of elements, for example metals that fail to be found during the washing process.

Plastic Identification and Separation

After resizing has been completed, the next process is identifying and separating the plastic material. In this process, the particles undergo a testing process.

The reason for this test is to identify the grade and quality of the plastic. The plastic material is then separated based on its characteristics for further processing.

Merger

Merging is the final process in recycling plastic waste. In this stage, plastic particles will be made into recycled materials which can later be re-produced by manufacturers.

Small plastic particles are crushed and melted into plastic pellets. Furthermore, these pellets can be used for the production of other plastics.
